Common Questions

What you may want to know before getting started

Starting therapy often comes with questions. Below are answers to some common questions people have before scheduling. If you don’t see your question here, you’re always welcome to reach out.

What can I expect during the free 15-minute consultation?

The consultation is an opportunity to briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, ask questions, and see whether working together feels like a good fit. There's no obligation to schedule an appointment afterward.

What can I expect during my first therapy session?

Our first session is an opportunity to get to know each other, discuss what you're experiencing, and talk about what you'd like to work toward. You don't need to know exactly what to say or have everything figured out. We'll go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, I accept several insurance plans. Coverage varies, so I recommend confirming your benefits with your insurance company. We can also review your insurance information before your first appointment.

How do I know if we’re a good fit?

Finding the right therapist is personal. During our consultation and early sessions, you'll have the opportunity to ask questions, get a sense of my approach, and decide whether you feel comfortable, heard, and understood.

Do you offer in-person and online therapy?

Yes. I offer in-person therapy at my office in Farmington Hills, Michigan, as well as convenient telehealth sessions for clients throughout Michigan. Both options provide the same personalized, supportive approach to therapy, so you can choose what works best for you.

How long are therapy sessions, and how often will we meet?

Sessions typically last 55 to 60 minutes. Many clients begin with weekly appointments, but we'll determine a schedule based on your needs and goals.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

I understand that schedules change and unexpected things come up. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, I ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice whenever possible. Late cancellations and missed appointments may be subject to a fee, as outlined in my cancellation policy.

What types of concerns do you help people with?

I work with teens and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, grief, ADHD, autism, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. I also support people navigating cancer, chronic illness, and other health-related challenges. Therapy is tailored to your individual needs and goals, helping you better understand what you’re experiencing and develop practical ways to move forward.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Your privacy is very important to me. What you share in therapy is confidential and protected by professional and legal standards, with certain exceptions required by law, such as concerns involving safety or suspected abuse or neglect. I'll explain confidentiality and its limits during our first session so you know what to expect and can feel comfortable asking questions.

How do I know what my insurance will cover?

Coverage depends on your plan, including deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and any limits on mental health benefits. I recommend contacting your insurance company to confirm your benefits before we begin. I’m happy to verify your benefits when possible and help you understand what your insurer tells you, though verification doesn’t guarantee payment. Even with in-network coverage, you may be responsible for some or all of a session’s cost.

What if you don’t accept my insurance?

You may have out-of-network benefits that cover part of your therapy costs. I can provide a superbill for you to submit for possible reimbursement. I recommend checking with your insurance company to confirm your benefits.

What if I've tried therapy before and it didn't help?

Not every therapeutic relationship or approach is the right fit, and that's okay. If you've tried therapy before and didn't find it helpful, we can talk about what worked, what didn't, and what you might need differently this time. My approach is collaborative and tailored to you. We'll work together to understand your needs and find strategies that feel meaningful and useful in your life.
